Mera Peak and Amphu Laptse Pass

Mera Peak 6476m is the highest trek in Nepal. It lies south of Everest and overlooks the heavily forested Hinku and Honzu Drangkas valleys.

J.O.M Roberts and Sen Tensing were the first to summit Mera on May 20, 1953.

The ascent does not really present any technical difficulties. It is a moderate slope snow race. A challenge accessible to mountaineers wishing to make their first 6000.

There are several routes to reach Mera Peak. This one leaves from Lukla and arrives at Lukla. Through pine and rhododendron forests we reach the pass of Zatrwa La (4943m). After a day of rest and acclimatization at Khare (4900m) we reach the base camp of Mera. From the summit of Mera Peak, the reward is there with one of the most beautiful panoramas in Nepal. A view of five Himalayan giants over 8000m: Cho-Oyu, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhoste. Then, by a rocky path along the glacier we climb to the Amphu Laptse pass (5780m). Return to Lukla through the village of Namche.
